Switch up your exercise routine

It is super important to switch up your routine. If you don't your body will get used to doing this particular exercise and after a while, you will not get any benefit from it.
My routine:
Sunday: Power Vinyassa Flow yoga
Monday: Gym do either the rolling stairs, bike or elyptical with light weights
Tuesday: Bikram Yoga
Wednesday: Gym day
Thursday: Power Vinyassa yoga
Friday: Gym
Saturday; Day off
This way, I get 3 days in the gym and 3 days of yoga. Perfect combo.....

Benefits of Bikram yoga

I had a wonderful day yesterday! Drove to NYC with my business partner Susan for a meeting with some of the most talented people on the planet who will be nameless until we work out details.
Anyway, great meeting, fantastic lunch,,NOHO Cafe ,,did not even crave the sweet I usually do after lunch and then back on the road home!
Susan and I switched off driving, which isn't bad but once we got home, we had another meeting at 8pm at night at a Mexican restaurant....hence the life of an entrepreneur.
By the time I got home, I was sore, tired and cranky. When I woke up this morning, I was even worse. I knew in my mind, the only thing that would make me feel better is to go to a Bikram yoga class (106 degrees) and STRETCH. It was amazing and I feel so much better!
Moral of the story, when you are sore and tired and cranky,,,,,go exercise, do something!

Health Magazine, March 2011 Page 16

There is an article in Health this month on working out on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning. I have done this for years. I usually just have coffee and go!
You have enough energy (fat) to hold you over through the workout. I have done heavy triathlon trainings in the past, just on coffee and a banana.....eat afterwards. Going to the gym!

Check out Health Magazine, one of my favourite ones!

Bananas! The perfect food and a great.45 minute workout!

Did not feel like going to the gym today. My back was killing me from dancing, Saturday night. I didn't sleep blah, blah, blah......
Well, I walked the dog, ate a banana with peanut butter, coffee and I was good to go. Made the drive to the gym.
I wanted to get a good workout in 45 minutes. I do love yoga but the drive to my studio (30 minutes), 90 minute class, there goes 2.5 hours.
So, today, I got on the stationery bike, Expresso, brought my workout band. I hooked it around the machine, did 45 minutes of intense biking while doing tricep extensions, reverse fly, chest press, bicep curls and lat pulldowns. Got a fantastic workout in 45 minutes on all one banana and 2 T of PB!!

Even when you are tired, you must do some kind of exercise

So, it's Monday morning, I did not sleep well, I don't feel like exercising but I WILL GO. I know once I get to my yoga class and begin, it will make me feel better and rejuvenate my body and mind.....
Word to the wise, get up, go for a walk, go to the gym, do some yoga!!
Have a great Monday!

jeggings!! What are they??

I have to say that this new rage of "jeggings" is killing me. It is a quick way for people to expand beyond their control..stretchy fabric is good to a certain extent. Great for the gym, walking the dog, the gym, walking the dog,......get it..it is not for every day life.
More and more people are growing into the clothes they are wearing.......it is scary.

My theory, my an old fasioned pair of Levi's 501's with no stretch......wear those every day, you will not grow into your pants and you will think twice about that donut, slice of cake or cookies.

Bikram Yoga,,,,,,,,,love or not love

As some of you may know, I have my 200 hour Registered Yoga Certification in Power Vinyassa Yoga.
I have been practicing over 7 years now and truly love yoga. Since my neck surgery, I have so much pain in my shoulders and thoracic area.

I recently did try Bikram Yoga. The room is about 110 degrees, covered in mirrors and a rug....now I was a bit disgusted with so many people sweating profusely on this rug. How many times a week do they wash it....the smell of the room just blew me away. Looking at all kinds of sweaty bodies, kind of grossed me out. BUT, the benefits of this class are simply amazing.....all you do is stretch which is totally so important for the mind, body and soul. I am starting to feel better. Pain is less BUT my first true love is Vinyassa Flow yoga. I will continue to do both!

Back to exercise and yoga!

I had my cervical fusion surgery about 6 months ago and I can finally go back to doing some band work and YOGA.. the more I do yoga the more I love it. It is so wonderful on so many levels. For me, I love the way I feel during the class, it is almost spiritual in a sense. You get stronger than if you do weight lifting three times a week.....holding your own body weight is a lot more difficult than one would think.....
Exercise definitely gives you the endorphin kick that just makes my day!
Go have a walk, run or do some yoga....it is amazing.

Yoga

I finally got cleared to go back to yoga and can't tell you how happy I am.

Not only is it totally body sculpint it is great for your head.....meditative and so important when life gets a bit stressy...

Yogapower Studio,Waltham, MA.owned by Renee LeBlanc. This is the most amazing class you will ever go to...Renee is a good friend and a fantastic teacher. You will get a work out!

Exercise after surgery!

It is really hard for me to be still. I am really suppose to take it easy, do light exrcise etc. I don't think I know what that means....:)

Anyway, one of my favourite classes to teach is standing and mat pilates. I feel you get such an incredible, sculpted body with this workout.

I have added some of the moves to my "easy workout" and I can tell you they are not so easy as they were before my operation.........

Back to the drawing board..:)

Exercise and injuries

I am a true believer in keeping the body moving even though you are in pain, injured or sick. Granted, there is a limit to illness and exercise but I will tell you why.

I have been suffering from severe neck and back pain since August 2009. I have been limited in exercise. You all know, I am a Personal Trainer, yoga and pilates teacher.
I am not teaching at present because of all of this pain.

The one thing that does help is going for a fast walk. This loosens the muscles and gets the body warm. It is a great idea to then do some stretching afterwards.

Being sedentary during this time would have made it worse and it did when my Dr. told me to take 4 days off. What a disaster! I was in more pain than ever before.

So, thought for the day! Go for a walk if nothing else........Happy Day.

My client, the one armed, conference call workout!

I went to train my client, BAC the other day and she had a conference call at the same time.
So, I had to get creative. We did all one armed exercises combined with lunges, squats and walking lunges.......it actually worked. We managed to do a full body workout while she was on a conference call!
She is off to Italy for two weeks and the one thing I asked her to bring is her exercise band. You can do a whole workout with this one piece of equipment. I have posted exercises previously on my blog.

The best piece of equipment for just $5.00!

This was also pulled from the Feb. issue of Shape magazine. I actually was stuck in a hotel room with just this band and my jump rope for one week straight. I left California in the best shape of my life. Follow these simple exercises and you will see what I mean.

It is all about the BUTT!

Again from Health magazine November 2009.
I do these exercises regularly myself and have my clients do them as well.
It is a must in order to retain that curvaceous buttocks.

The Day after Thanksgiving.........

So, you had your big meal, ate way too much, feel disgusting. Now, it is time to get back on track. Go to the gym, take a walk or go to a class, just do something.
Start the morning off in a healthy way, fruit, yogurt, one of the health bars and drinks lots of water. Get rid of the pie, ice cream and what ever else you had for dessert............out of the house. You do not need it.
As you all know, I have been cutting sugar out of my diet. I have been doing really well and I don't miss it. I did notice that after I ate my one piece of pie, I wanted more sugar. Sugar is so addicting and that is why once you start, it is hard to stop! The point is you have to have control over sugar and don't let it control you.
Have a great day shopping!

When you have a sore back,,,,,,

I have been having terrible back and neck pain....I tried not working out for four days which is a lot for me and my back got worse.
I finally went to the gym and did the bike and elyptical for about an hour and then did some very light weights. I have to say my back loosened up and I feel much better and not so grouchy. Granted, my problem isn't fixed at this point. I do need PT but in the meantime, I say do light exericise and never just lay around. It makes the muscles tighter and more sore.

Best Yoga Studio in the area

As you all know, I love my yoga.
I will be going on a retreat with Renee LeBlanc who owns Yoga Power Studio in Waltham. The best bang for your buck. We will be going to a resort two hours from Tuscon. Check out her website at:

Off to class! Did you exercise today?????

Love my yoga!

I do yoga almost everyday. It is soothing, physical and relieves all my stress. I can be on my mat and just "BE" and not worry or think about anything but the "asana" or pose.
Today, I went to Yoga Power Studio in Waltham, MA. Renee LeBlanc taught the class and she is amazing. I will be going on a retreat with her this fall to Arizona and I can't wait. If anyone is interested, check out her website: www.yogapowerstudio.com
Namaste!

It is all about the abs!!!

It is all about what you inherit from your parents. My Mom had eleven children, I am number four and she still has a six pack at 79, kind of but you know what I mean. So, I have been lucky enough to inherit her genes, BUTTTTTTTTT, I also work at it. I was a cardio queen for years, ran several marathons, did over 100 triathlons, swam the San Francisco Bay etc.but I think the key is, pilates, yoga and swimming. Pilates makes you stand up taller, makes you use your core-abs. Yoga does the same by doing ton of balancing poses, stretching, and holding your own body weight. With swimming you get your cardio and also use your whole body to move through the water plus, you are not pounding on pavement. I know it gets tougher as we get older but you have to consume less calories and continue to exercise...Have a nice weekend.

Exercises you shouldn't live without!

Since it is really hard to photograph myself doing exercises I will from time to time use pictures from magaznes. This series is from Sept. 2009, Heath Magazine. I love this magazine and I highly suggest it for exercies, healthy food recipes and great articles.

I do lunges and squat type exercies almost every day but suggest to start by doing this series 3 days a week. I would do this whole series through doing 15 reps on each leg or 15 squat positions and then go through the whole routine 2 more times.......your legs will feel so much more tone and stronger!
